From creating delicious, juicy burgers to perfectly cooked chargrilled steaks, all using 30-day aged beef from UK and Irish Farms, Beefeater is all about the grill. For the very first time in the restaurant’s 47-year history, you can now experience the taste of Beefeater at home with the launch of its signature ’74 BBQ sauce, available to purchase nationwide from its 173 restaurants from 19th October.

A perfect combination of fruity and sweet, with a clever blend of spices and smoky bitterness, the ’74 BBQ sauce launch marks the restaurant’s first step into ‘Beefeater at Home’ and has been created to be a delicious marinade for grilled meat and fish, as well as a perfect sauce for dipping.

Beefeater began its journey with extensive research and numerous recipe tastings from sauces across the southern states of the US from Virginia to Texas, considered to be one of the many homes of barbecue food. Inspired by the complexity of sweet, sour, and spicy flavours, the team set to work on a signature sauce which also gives a nod to the brand’s heritage.

With a base of tomato, the sauce encompasses sweet and rich fruity notes, led by the freshness of British Bramley apple, contrasting with spicy undertones from a blend of cumin, garlic, and chilli. These flavours are balanced with a slight bitterness from the addition of a dark porter with rich, dark chocolate notes, which pays tribute to Beefeater’s heritage as part of the Whitbread family, who were once the UK’s largest porter brewers.

Commenting on the launch, Chris Seaby, Head of Food and Beverage development at Whitbread said: “We wanted to create a BBQ sauce that really captured the essence of our brand. Beefeater is all about the grill, so our mission was to create a BBQ sauce that tastes as good straight off the grill as it does on its own. It hasn’t been easy to achieve and required extensive recipe testing and research to make sure we had the right balance of ingredients, acidity, sweetness, and spice, but the hard-work has paid-off and we are incredibly excited to be introducing ’74 BBQ sauce to our diners.”

Priced at £2.99 for a 260ml bottle, Beefeater ’74 BBQ sauce will be available to purchase from all Beefeater restaurants. You can also find it incorporated across dishes on Beefeater’s new Autumn/Winter menus and available on every table to try. To learn more, please visit www.beefeater.co.uk/en-gb/autumn.
