In support of Men’s Health Week 2021 (14th until 21st June), the team at Citadines Islington London, the newest addition to the Citadines Apart’hotel portfolio has shared their tips on how they look after their physical and mental health, to promote the importance of positive male wellbeing.

Stick to a routine

The last year has been challenging for us all with a complete change of routine in our day to day lives. Whether you are working from home or back in the office, having a routine, and sticking to it, can make a real difference.

“When I am working from home, I make sure I get up, have a shower and get ready for work exactly how I would if I was going into the office”, says Billy Hughes, UK Area Manager The Ascott Limited, which includes Citadines Islington. “Keeping to a routine can help to lower stress levels and improve focus and productivity which overall improves mental health. Adding some time in to relax or exercise is also key to your routine and the perfect way to reset your mind and body.

“I block my diary out for three one-hour sessions a week and complete a 10-to-15-minute stretching programme every day. Unless it is important to the business, I do not compromise on that diary time.”

Make time for exercise

“Exercising regularly is key as it is so beneficial to our physical and mental health, it is important we make time for it. To ensure our guests can continue to live a healthy lifestyle while away from home, we provide yoga mats in our deluxe studio and apartments for them to use,” says Nikolay Rekov, Assistant Residence Manager at Citadines Islington.

“Find an exercise routine which you enjoy, doing weights at the gym or going for a run may not be for you so, why not considering yoga or Tai Chi which are great at helping you to improve physical and mental strength and health and reduce stress and anxiety. Just going for a short walk can help to increase energy and put you in a positive mindset.”

Have some me time

As part of its dedicated wellness offering Citadines Islington offers complimentary bike hire for guests staying at the property so they can get some fresh air, exercise and explore the local area on two wheels.

“Find an activity which helps you in relax in your own time. This could be trying out different recipes in the kitchen, socialising with friends or family, reading a good book, or getting out and about outdoors. For me, I love to get on my bike and cycle around Islington. We are very fortunate at Citadines Islington to be surrounded by a wide variety of eclectic and authentic shops and restaurants, including restaurant and wellness space OMNOM, which offers discounted healthy and nutritious food and drink for Citadines guests.

“Citadines Islington London is also just a short walk or cycle from Islington’s renowned Upper Street, famous for its quirky stores and lively atmosphere, and close to the world-famous Sadler’s Wells Theatre, the home of Arsenal Football Club at Emirates Stadium, the internationally renowned Almeida Theatre and London’s beautiful Regent’s Canal.”
