Now, more than ever, it is important to build healthy habits to boost our immune systems. In light of this, Dharana at Shillim – a world-class wellness destination in the Western Ghats of India - has produced some top line guidelines for the ancient science of yoga and an immune boosting diet so that during lockdown, we can all practise the Dharana way of life through Ayurvedic holistic remedies.

Yoga Asanas

These five Yoga Asanas will help to rejuvenate the mind, boost the immune system and reinforce a disease resistance metabolism, as explained by Dharana’s very own Dr Arun Pillai.

  • PRANAYAMA This improves your immune system by regulating your heart rate and reducing the nervous system distress in your body

  • MATSYASANA This asana relieves congestion that may be caused due to cough, viral fevers or merely air pollution. If practiced regularly, Matsyasana is an effective remedy for respiratory infections or diseases

  • VIPARITA The Viparita asana aims at improving the blood circulation in the body

  • TADASANA This yoga asana increases your physical strength while simultaneously strengthening your mental balance with all external stimuli

  • BHUJANGASANA Similar to the Matsyasana, the Bhujangasana also aims to improve your respiratory system while strengthening the muscles of your lower body

Immunity Boosting Foods: these foods have been identified as being most beneficial for maintaining and boosting the immunity: Blueberry, Broccoli, Sunflower Seeds, Kefir, Green tea, Nuts & Seeds, Turmeric, Spinach, Organe, Almonds, Brown rice, Mushroom, Sweet potato, Garlic, Red bell pepper, Kiwi, Ginger.
