Matfen Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa has invested £200,000 in an extensive refurbishment of its gym facilities.

Part of the Aqua Vitae health club at the award-winning Northumberland hotel, the gym has undergone a complete refit and now boasts a truly state-of-the-art space fit for the 21st century.

The new look gym features a larger free weights and training area as well as distinctive and inspiring new decor and lighting design.

In addition to the dramatic makeover, the ambitious upgrade of the facilities has also included a lock stock replacement of the gym’s equipment.

Continuing its partnership with global fitness and wellness specialists, Technogym – official supplier to the Olympic and Paralympic Games over the past 20 years – the latest cardio, resistance and functional training equipment from its Skills and Excite ranges has been installed, powered by the international brand’s MyWellness software.

The new equipment, together with the addition of the MyWellness technology from Technogym offers member and guests unrivalled opportunities to exercise, track their progress and improve their fitness in top-of-the-range fashion.

Aqua Vitae manager, Carole Crowe, said, “Our plans to transform the gym have been in the making for a while, and everyone is delighted with the results.

“We are also thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Technogym, a brand synonymous with high quality and a global ambition to promote and facilitate wellness.

“The new Skill and Excite ranges, together with the MyWellness App will ensure that our members and guests can make the very most of their sessions at the gym.”

The new gym, which was officially opened by BBC Look North presenter, and longtime Aqua Vitae member, Carol Malia, will be put through its paces throughout March as Matfen Hall members, guests and community groups from the local area work together for the Let’s Move for a Better World campaign.

A global challenge headed up by Technogym, the initiative has been designed to fight obesity and discourage sedentary lifestyles while also offering tangible benefits for the local community.

The goal is to inspire club members, their friends and family and fellow citizens to donate their physical activity to fitness facilities, and compete in a nationwide challenge, which runs from March 11 to 30, 2019.

Groups from Northumbria Police, the Army – from neighbouring Albemarle Barracks – and nearby sporting clubs will all be getting involved to generate ‘moves’ – a measurement of activity devised by Technogym – in pursuit of an overall target.

“And if we reach it,” said Carole, “We will be able to donate £10,000 worth of Technogym equipment to the Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham, which offers something really brilliant to aim for.

“A strong sense of community has always been something we’ve encouraged at Aqua Vitae and we feel very proud of the supportive and encouraging atmosphere we’ve created for our members and guests.”

Bernard Bloodworth, Matfen Hall Hotel’s general manager, added, “This major investment in our leisure facilities demonstrates our commitment to keeping Matfen Hall at the forefront of the region’s luxury health and wellbeing facilities.

“We are sure our members and guests will enjoy the new Aqua Vitae gym and look forward to seeing everyone working together for the Let’s Move for a Better World campaign.”

Aqua Vitae are showcasing their new gym during an open weekend on March 23 and 24 when there will also be a full taster timetable of studio classes to try too. Members of the public are welcome to attend and also try out . For more information, call 01661 855 710 or visit www.matfenhall.com
