One of Scotland’s most luxurious exclusive use venues has opened in the Angus countryside following a massive year-long restoration. Features of Castleton House Luxury Estate, at Eassie on the border with Perthshire, include a Champagne room, works by leading international interior designers, South African art, a billiards room, outdoor hot tubs and state-of-the-art sound systems.

Formerly a hotel, the Edwardian mansion house has been transformed into a self-catering resort set in eight acres of grounds a few miles from the world famous Glamis Castle, birthplace of Her late Majesty Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

It caters for the needs of those looking for an indulgent, ultra-luxurious retreat for all-important getaways,” said Rayne Perry who is a Director at Castleton House alongside her fiancé Paul Cousins. “These include celebrations, small weddings, family and friends get-togethers and reunions, golfing, shooting and fishing parties, and corporate events.

Castleton House Luxury Estate has six en-suite double bedrooms, all with Super King Size beds, in the main house and a further three bedrooms in an adjacent cottage. All are individually designed and have Egyptian cotton linen, luxury amenities and Bang and Olufsen speakers. The ornate main dining room seats 18, as does the luxurious drawing room.

Among other features and amenities are locally sourced antique furniture, three wood burning stoves, two hot tubs, barbecue ‘Hobbit Hut’, covered BBQ/entertainment area and putting green. The garden is fenced off, making it safe for children and pets.

Wallpaper designers include Christian Lacroix, Matthew Williamson and Ellie Cashman. The bar in the billiard room is by Timothy Oulton whose hospitality projects include those in Singapore and Los Angeles.

The vast kitchen has solid quartz worktops with Amtico flooring and is split into three sections.

Castleton is less than half an hour’s drive from Dundee and Perth, just over an hour from Edinburgh and under two hours from Glasgow, where the couple live.

World-famous golf courses, Carnoustie, St Andrews and Gleneagles, are within easy reach as are outdoor pursuits such as fishing, shooting, hillwalking and skiing.

One of the resort’s first events will be the couple’s own wedding at which they will welcome 150 guests for a reception in a marquee in the grounds. Smaller weddings of 20 to 30 guests can take place within the main house.
