Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa Leads the Way in Sustainability with New “Sustainability Day” Initiative

Embark on a journey to sustainability in Mahé with an array of eco-friendly activities, including traditional dance classes, beach clean-ups, snorkelling tours, and more…

Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa, Mahé, has launched a new "Sustainability Day" initiative to offer guests the chance to partake in an array of eco-friendly activities, from beach clean-ups and delicious meals made from sustainably-sourced ingredients, to non-motorised sports and in-villa energy and water conservation. Sustainability Day, which will take place on the first Tuesday of every month, aims to encourage guests and other local hotels and resorts to contribute to the preservation of the environment and help raise awareness of the cause. Sustainability Day is the latest addition to the resort’s ever-expanding eco-initiatives and efforts.

“By launching the new Sustainability Day initiative, we hope to inspire others in the Seychelles hospitality industry to join us on our journey to reach total sustainability by adopting the same idea and offering their guests the opportunity to engage in impactful eco-friendly activities,” says Daniele Fabbri, General Manager of Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa.

Sustainability Day eco-friendly activities include:

Beau Vallon Beach Clean Up

In response to the finding that by 2050 the world’s oceans could contain more plastic and other man-made fibres than fish, and that these materials are posing an astronomical threat to the protection of the island’s marine life, guests will have the opportunity to take part in a beach clean-up at the beautiful Beau Vallon beach, located on the North Western coast of Mahé. The clean-up will allow guests to witness first-hand how impactful such small behaviours such as rubbish collecting can have on protecting the environment.

Fresh & Locally Sourced Sustainable Menu
Recently launched as part of the hotel’s new renovation project, healthy dining restaurant, WAVE, will offer an environmentally-conscious yet mouth-watering menu, with dishes including ‘the blended burger’ - a patty containing 30% mushrooms and 70% sustainably sourced beef, thereby reducing the CO2 generated by the dish by nearly one-third, whilst maintaining the burger’s taste and texture - a variety of fresh fish such as scallops, prawns, red snapper and smoked marlin, all of which have been locally and sustainably sourced. Guests are encouraged to try this menu and experience delicious Creole delicacies they may never have tried before.

Coral Nursery & Artificial Reef Snorkelling Tour

Led by the Marine Conservation Society’s team of experts, guests can venture on an incredible snorkelling tour to the resort’s impressive Coral Nursery and Artificial Reef, where they will have the opportunity to observe an abundance of different coral types and gain a deeper insight into the resort’s Coral Restoration programme. Snorkellers will also be able to adopt their own coral for an extra special snorkelling experience.

Other activities and eco-friendly initiatives offered during Sustainability Day include a ‘shower with sand timer’, where small sand timers will be supplied in the villas’ bathrooms to urge guests to think about their water usage whilst showering. Guests can also enjoy lessons in the local dance of the Seychelles, The Sega, which will not only offer guests the chance to immerse in Mauritian tradition but encourage them to consider another way to work up a sweat and skip the gym and ultimately save energy. Additionally, a sustainability presentation and video will offer guests a more profound insight into the resort’s efforts to preserve the island and ultimately inspire guests to adapt to a more sustainable lifestyle, whilst a sustainability video can be viewed and enjoyed in the comfort of their own villa.
