Emerging Leaders stage Grand Ball in aid of Brain Tumour Support

A team of emerging leaders from De Vere Tortworth Court Hotel, near Bristol, have organised a Gala Dinner Charity Ball which they hope will raise thousands of pounds for Brain Tumour Support.

The event will take place on 19 April at De Vere Tortworth Court, Wotton-under-Edge, and the organisers have set a target of raising £5,000 for the charity.

Eight people, aged between 18 – 21, are currently on the Emerging Leader Programme at the hotel, and were challenged to plan and host a charity event, keeping costs as low as possible in order to maximise the benefits for the chosen charity.

The EL Programme, which runs throughout the De Vere group of hotels, is an accelerated learning and development programme that offers real opportunities for people to carve out rewarding and successful careers in the hospitality sector.

The after-effects of both Brexit and the pandemic has seen the hospitality sector struggle to find the staff it needs, and the EL programme is being seen as one way to show people that the industry is one which can offer opportunities for people to carve out a career for life.

The in-depth 18-month, EL Programme enables future hospitality leaders to get to grips with every operational department of a large hotel, including reception, bars, conferences and housekeeping.

At the end of the programme, the seven will have achieved a Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship and will have completed De Vere’s Inspire to Manage internal training modules.

Meanwhile, the current team is continuing to make their plans for the fund-raising event in April, which will include a three-course meal and entertainment including fireworks, live music and a raffle and auction.

Ethan Moore, one of the organisers of the event, said: “Here at De Vere Tortworth Court, we pride ourselves on the work we do for charity, and this Charity Ball is going to truly be something special, and we are hoping for a great support from local clients and businesses to each host a table of 10.

“Guests will be able to begin the evening with a 6 O’Clock Gin & Fever Tree tonic in our Atrium Bar before a three-course dinner designed by our executive chef.

“The live auction will feature hotel stay, signed memorabilia from Liverpool Football Club and the Bristol Bears, plus a lot more.

“There will be a magical firework display provided by Demetri Loukanaris and then guests will be able to dance the night away – all while raising funds for a very good cause.”
