Resort becomes the first in Switzerland to achieve a total of four stars

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, Europe’s Leading Wellbeing & Medical Health Resort, yesterday secured its achievement of four Michelin Stars – two each for chefs Silvio Germann and Sven Wassmer for their IGNIV by Andreas Caminada and Memories restaurants, respectively.

Having already achieved one star for IGNIV by Andreas Caminda, the resort is today celebrating a total of three new Michelin stars: one more for IGNIV and two for Sven Wassmer at Memories. This achievement marks the two fine-dining restaurants at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz as two of the best in Switzerland, with only 22 restaurants being awarded two Michelin stars in the whole country.

Having opened Memories in July 2019, 33-year-old Sven Wassmer has risen to the top league of Swiss chefs within just eight months. Wassmer was awarded two stars at his previous restaurant in Vals. Of the achievement he says ‘For me, these two stars are the reward for intense work over the past year,’ Wassmer emphasises that star-level cooking is a team effort: ‘It would be impossible to cook at such a high level without my team. An amazing accomplishment such as this can only be achieved together.’

Silvio Germann, now in his fifth IGNIV year, has demonstrated the consistently high performance of his young team, building on the restaurant’s success by achieving his second star: ‘The second star came completely unexpectedly,’ said Germann, ‘but our joy is huge, and we are now even more motivated to pursue our path to success. Every single member of this team gives their best every day to make our guests happy.’ At only 30 years old, Germann has played a key role in shaping the fine-dining sharing experience concept originally designed by Andreas Caminada, from the very opening of IGNIV at the resort.

General Manager of the Grand Hotels, Marco R Zanolari, says ‘With this award, the culinary world at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is reaching new heights. We heartily congratulate Sven Wassmer and Silvio Germann and their teams on this achievement.’

The presentation was made at the Michelin Guide 2020 in Lugano, Switzerland, on 24th February 2020. With these successes, Grand Resort Bad Ragaz confirms its reputation as an outstanding culinary destination in Eastern Switzerland.

The Michelin Guide has been available in Switzerland since 1994. The Michelin inspectors attach great importance to the fact that their award is for the restaurant and not for the chef, making cooking at star level truly a team sport. Silvio Germann and Sven Wassmer have proved this ethos in their daily work across IGNIV and Memories.
