Female fishmonger, Amy Pender, of Rick Stein’s Seafood Bar and Fishmongers in Padstow, Cornwall, has qualified as the Youngest Female Advanced Fishmonger in the UK at the age of 21, awarded by the Master Fishmonger Standard.

Amy is part of a small team who oversee the fresh fish counter and is highly trained at selecting, handling, gutting, boning, filleting and creating visually appealing displays to drive sales. She also oversees the popular seafood bar in the same site in Padstow, preparing shellfish platters and giving guests a great Rick Stein experience.

She has worked for the Rick Stein business approaching four years, honing her craft under the guidance of the seasoned professionals in the seafood industry. The achievement is a testament to Amy’s passion, dedication and skill in the art of fishmongery.

Amy Pender comments: "Becoming a fishmonger is the best thing I’ve ever done. While being a fishmonger is often considered a male role in the industry, being female and achieving such high qualifications is a dream come true. I’m proud to say I’m the youngest female advanced fishmonger in the country and I’d like to thank the team at Rick Stein for their ongoing support. On a sunny day, nothing beats catching your own!"

Jack Stein, Chef Director of Rick Stein Restaurants, comments: “It’s brilliant to see Amy from our team in Padstow excelling as a young fishmonger. At just 21, we can’t wait to watch her continue learning and developing further.”
