Quinta do Lago Launches Cycling Festival this February Half Term

In Celebration of the Official 2020 Volta ao Algarve Race

This February half term Quinta do Lago is delighted to be launching ‘The Campus Bike Shed Festival 2020’, a four day cycling event taking place throughout the Algarve resort and surrounding regions. This inaugural festival will run from Thursday 20th February to Sunday 23rd February and will coincide with the Volta ao Algarve, an international sporting event which welcomes keen cyclists and professional athletes to the Algarve each year.

Located just 15 minutes from Faro airport, Quinta do Lago is a renowned sporting destination and offers families a thrilling holiday adventure with sporting events available at the new multi-sports hub The Campus.  The resort offers relaxed accommodation at The Magnolia Hotel combined with a hive of activity in the surrounding regions – perfect for a quick half term getaway. February in Quinta do Lago sees warm temperatures of around 17°C for an idyllic sunny escape with the whole family at the peak of the cold British winter.


The Campus Bike Shed Festival 2020


This year ‘The Campus Bike Shed Festival 2020’ has been designed to allow cycling enthusiasts to experience the Algarve’s very best trials and routes with professional cyclists from all across the globe. Participants will begin the four day event with a led 60km or 100km ride to Fóia, the highest peak in the Algarve, where riders will watch the official Volta do Algarve mountain top finish followed by a welcome dinner at Bovino Steakhouse. The following day will allow cyclists to explore Quinta do Lago with a TT challenge followed by a local recovery ride. On the penultimate day the group will be led on a 60km cycle through the Vilamoura coastline.

The final day of the festival will welcome cyclists to participate in the official Algarve Grandfondo challenge which forms the final day of the Volta ao Algarve. Quinta do Lago guests will join sporting stars to embark on the 121km cycle up a challenging 2,143 metres. There is also the possibility to take part in the Algarve Mediiofondo on a more accessible 78.7km route.
 
The four-day festival accommodation package includes dinner at Bovino Steakouse, a fully guided cycle rides around the beautiful Algarve region, support vehicles to return guests back to the resort after a hard day’s biking, snacks and beverages throughout the four days – as well as the participation fee and accommodation at The Magnolia Hotel. It is also possible to upgrade your package to include bike fitting and FTP testing (booking required).

The Bike Shed forms part of The Campus’ sports hub, a fully equipped high performance centre catering to all sporting abilities, from world class athletes to active families alike. The Bike Shed is the ultimate pit stop, where passionate cycling professionals are available to support guests with bike mechanics, fitting and storage. The team are also at hand to share their local knowledge of the best local trails through the Ria Formosa Natural Park, surrounding costal routes, challenging climbs and secluded stop-off points.

‘The Campus Bike Shed Festival’ is running from 20th to 23rd February 2020 with a participation fee of £295 /€350 per person.
